Governor Scott Walker today announced that these seven counties will be added to the Family Care program that manages the care of the elderly and disabled who need long-term care: Brown, Door, Kewaunee, Marinette, Menomonie, Oconto and Shawano. In a statement, Walker said state officials estimate that expanding the program to these counties would save $34.7 million over 10 years. The announcement means that the program will be in 64 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties. In the statement, Walker said the expansion “allows more people to stay in their homes, where they prefer to be. By extending Family Care services, they can have a better quality of life, more independence, and they can avoid the expense of moving into a nursing home before it’s necessary.”
