Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, Senator Abdallah Wali The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, Senator Abdallah Wali, on Thursday vowed to turn around the economy and reverse the underdevelopment plaguing the state, if elected governor in the 2015 election. He also called on the other contestants to accept the outcome of the primary election in good faith. Wali made this known on Thursday in an interview with select journalists in Sokoto. The PDP governorship candidate expressed deep concern with the high rate of poverty, maternal and infant mortality, decadence of moral values and illiteracy in the state. He vowed to do whatever it takes to reverse the trend of non performance exhibited by the All Progressives Congress-led administration in the state. “The truth of the matter is that we are near the bottom on all human development index. We are not first in infrastructural or any of the sectoral ratings. The issue of Almajiri is mounting, youth unemployment is growing, transparency in governance is near zero and the state lacks a 21st century oriented development agenda. “So, we must transform from backwardness to fast tracked development and make Sokoto a model state. “Sokoto is a centre of learning and civilisation. Why must we remain backward? Why must we rank low on all good things all the time? Why is Sokoto not the first among comity of states in Nigeria? “This state has produced great leaders from Sheikh Uthman Danfodio to Sir Ahmadu Bello and President Shehu Shagari. Therefore, we must collectively join hands to take this state out of the wood,” Wali averred. He, however, called on other contenders to accept the outcome of the election and join hands with him in the onerous task of defeating the APC in the next election. Wali noted that the peaceful manner with which the congress was conducted should encourage unity and common front within the party. “The open and transparent conduct of this primary confirms the commitment of our national leaders to internal democracy,” he stressed. Wali commended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP for sustaining democratic principles in the party.
