Govt approves 50 lakh tonnes of food grains for BPL families Jul 17, 8:21 PM The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved an allocation of 50 lakh tonnes of foodgrains to States and Union Territories during the current financial year for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. This allocation will remain valid upto 31st March next year or till the National Food Security Bill is passed by Parliament and implemented. It will meet the additional requirement of foodgrains for BPL families. The estimated subsidy on this allocation will be over 9471 crore rupees. AIR Correspondent reports that the Central government allocates foodgrains to the States under the Targeted Public Distribution System for 6.52 crore BPL families which include 2.43 crore Antyodaya Anna Yojana families. The CCEA has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for implementing a scheme to make common man aware of the benefits of various Government schemes. The scheme called Development Communication and Information Dissemination scheme with an outlay of 630 crore rupees, will be implemented by the media units of the Ministry through various modes of awareness generation programme. The CCEA also approved construction of office and residential buildings and Border Out Posts at various establishments of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) during the 12th Five Year Plan. It will be cost about 3510 crore rupees. The approval will address one of the main concerns of the SSB for providing authorized infrastructure. The CCEA also gave its nod for the implementation of 15 building projects under the Delhi Police Building Programme Scheme during the 12th Plan. It will provide adequate housing for Delhi Police personnel and to improve the efficiency of the force level by providing regular police stations, other office buildings and residential facilities. It has approved construction of office and residential buildings at various establishments of Assam Rifles during the 12th Five Year Plan. The project will cost around 970 crore rupees. The CCEA also approved continuing the research and development programme in the water sector with an outlay 360 crore rupees during the 12th Plan to improve available technologies for optimal efficiency and economy in water resources projects.
