Govt in favour of keeping political parties out of RTI ambit The Government has decided to keep political parties out of the ambit of the Right to Information, RTI, Act. A draft note has been prepared by the Department of Personnel and Training, which is the nodal department for implementation of the transparency law. The move comes after the Central Information Commission, CIC, last month held that six national parties have been substantially funded indirectly by the central government. The CIC said that since Congress, BJP, NCP, CPI(M), CPI and BSP have the character of a public authority under the RTI Act, they are required to appoint Public Information Officers.
