Gracious God Now Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. But the LORD was gracious to them and had compassion on them, and he turned toward them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, nor has he cast them from his presence until now. (2 Kings 13:22-23 ESV). Who is Jehoahaz? As it is recorded in verses 10-11 10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years. 11 He also did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin, but he walked in them. During the time that God had been gracious to His people they were being led by king Jehoahaz, a king who did evil in the sight of the Lord and he did not depart from all the sins that Jeroboan, son of Nebat did. Looking at the big picture we can see clearly the graciousness of God to His people because he did not let Syria destroy His people. He could have easily let His people be destroyed by the Syrians but He did not because He is a gracious God and had compassion on His people. We also experienced His graciousness to us that while we were still sinners Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). God demonstrated how gracious He is when He send His only Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross to save us from His wrath. God is a Holy God and we have sinned against Him therefore as what the Scripture said Gods wrath was revealed in heaven (Romans 1:18). He is crying for justice and the bible is clear for the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). And death means eternal seperation from the presence of God but in the same verse It says but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:23). The finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary satisfied the wrath of God and His resurrection paved the way for us to be declared righteous (Romans 4:25). Jesus Christ indeed as what He said is the Way for us to be reconciled with God. Trust Jesus and His finished work on the cross, believe in Him, turn away from your sin and turn to our Lord Jesus Christ. God is gracious and we have seen His grace in the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and even for us who are already in Christ still His grace is empowering us to live a life worthy of His calling. The Scripture says For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. (Titus 2:11-14 ESV).
