Graduate assistantships available in Trumpet (2), Horn, Trombone, and Tuba in the recently designed Master of Music in performance degree: Mercer University’s Townsend School of Music announces the recent addition of a Master of Music degree in Performance. Candidates will perform in the newly formed Mercer Graduate Brass Quintet. This degree is to be completed in three to four semesters. A two-semester residency is required. STIPENDS: Based on the applicant’s audition/interview, candidates with an assistantship will receive a minimum 50% reduction of tuition and 100% reduction of all fees. Candidates with a fellowship will receive a 100% reduction of tuition and fees. Most graduate students enroll in 10-12 hours per semester. RESPONSIBILITIES: Students who earn an assistantship or fellowship will be required to assist with undergraduate ensembles for a total of six hours per week. Besides participation in the Graduate Brass Quintet, candidates will also perform in the Mercer University Wind Ensemble and University Orchestra. DEGREE and FACULTY: Master of Music in Performance. This degree program will be highly selective due to the allowance of a minimum number of trumpet, horn, trombone, and tuba performers. The brass faculty consists of the following: Trumpet—Mr. Jonathan Swygert; Horn—Mr. Jay Hanselman; Trombone—Dr. Tom Gibson; Tuba/Euphonium—Mr. Eric Bubacz. Assistantship and Fellowship applicants should audition in person and complete all requirements for admission. Applications will be reviewed on a continuing basis until positions are filled.
