Graham - Muddy Perfect. do you know how supermarkets operate? I was told this by a director friend years ago. Take one item baked beans. Tesco (for example) go to Heinz at the start of the year and order 100 train loads of baked beans, they are delivered to each store and put on the shelf - price is unimportant 5p or 55p when the can is sold the money goes into the till and is invested in the stock market -= the money from that can of beans will make £5 profit - at the end of the year Tesco pays Heinz (or any other supplier) for the shipment. as he said, Tesco (and the rest) are NOT in the food business - they are in the money business. Joe Blogg who owns the corner shop goes to the wholesaler and buys a case of baked beans, pays CASH for them, and has to sell them at a profit in order to live- he does not have the credit like the supermarkets. This is how supermarkets run their businesses.
