Grammar Lesson #5 (thanks Jason Bankston) - The use of WHO and WHOM. Who is a subjective pronoun, and therefore, used as a SUBJECT, which does the action. WHOM is an objective pronoun, and therefore, used as an OBJECT, which receives the action. Quick Trick - if you can substitute HE - then you use WHO. If you can substitute HIM - then you use WHOM. However, the sentence must be in NORMAL WORD ORDER (subject before the verb). How can you remember that WHOM goes with HIM? Anyone, anyone? Yes because HIM has an M and WHOM has an M. EXAMPLE: WHO/WHOM will you take to the dance? - Since it is a question, put it in NWO - I will take.....HIM so the answer is WHOM. WHO/WHOM is standing behind the curtain. HE is standing behind the curtain....HE is the answer so it is WHO. Same applies to WHOEVER and WHOMEVER.
