Grand Alliance formula: Congress legislators hold closed door meet at Jammu Srinagar, Jan 3 (KNS): At a time when closed door meetings in state’s political spectrum is becoming order of the day, 12 Congress MLAs held a marathon deliberations in winter capital on Saturday, saying vigil over the situation is being maintained. Sources privy to this development told KNS that at the residence of the Congress MLA Aijaz Khan in Jammu, all the elected legislators of Congress held a detailed meet to discuss the future strategy. “It was an informal meet. We discussed everything including the present political situation that has emerged in Jammu and Kashmir after the state elections,” one of the Congress legislator who attended the meet told KNS while pleading anonymity. He maintained that the possible alliance options and the role of the Congress vis-à-vis the same was discussed threadbare as no political party here at present has come out with the adequate numbers to form the government of its own. “Parties need each other and as far as the Congress is concerned, we too have discussed our future strategy though it is the high command that has to take a final call over any subtle issue like forging of alliance with the PDP.” Sources also confirmed that the meeting was held for hours behind the closed doors and the view of the Congress legislators if asked to go with the PDP was also discussed thoroughly. Pertinently, former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad earlier floated the idea of the grand alliance in JK, saying Congress, NC and PDP can join hands to keep BJP at bay. Though, BJP termed Azad’s remarks as the betrayal with the sentiments of Jammu and Kashmir, PDP which has emerged as the single largest party in JK has said all options at present are open.
