Grand Bassa County Senatorial Candidate Siokin Civicus Barsigiah has expressed disappointment in the national Legislature and the Elections Commission for setting December 16, 2014 as the new date to hold the special Senatorial Election in the country in the wake of the deadly Ebola virus claiming the lives of Liberians. The National Legislature has in the past come under criticisms from some of its members for their alleged role in aiding the Executive Branch of Government get sticky legislations passed at the Legislature by fraudulently altering the wordings of some legislation after leaving the Legislature. The final wordings agreed upon by lawmakers sometimes changed after being printed into handbill. In an interview with King’s News Thursday, the youthful Senatorial Candidate said though he has been official announced by the National Elections Commission as a Candidate to contest in the ensuing special Senatorial Election, holding Election December 16, is not possible, but rather a recovery time for citizens. Mr. Barsigiah said as a candidate he will not support the holding of Election when people who should be casting vote are dying on a daily basis as he went on to say “one can restore power but you cannot restore lives”. He has however called on the people of Grand Bassa County not to give credence to such a suggested date.
