Grand Final Review - Spears 36 defeat Tornadoes 0 Congratulations to the Spears becoming the 2013 ACTG Champions and doing it in a dominant fashion all season long. Undefeated all season and back to back season champions the first two years of the Spears time in the ACT gridiron comp has been memorable to say the least. MVP - There is no arguing who the standout player of the game was, and that was Joseph Juice Taula. 169yds rushing averaging 11.2yds a carry, 4 touchdowns rushing, 2 touchdown passes, 8 tackles, 1 assist and a sack. Good lord Joe, leave some football glory for the rest of us. Team Effort - Who am I kidding, the Spears came to play on Saturday and from the opening kick off it was evident they werent leaving without the Capital Bowl trophy in hand. There were big hits, blocks and plays all game long. Speaking of team effort, way to give all of yourselves nicknames on your jerseys. If youre going to do that at least send me a cheat sheet of numbers, names and nicknames as I missed 90% of the nicknames during the game so for future references to different players if I dont use your nickname apologies in advance. The Catch - The play of the game occurred when Joe had a terrible snap go flying over his head and he had to scramble in the backfield to recover the ball. Once again he went for it and seeing Stuart Vin Duncan launch himself into the air snatching the ball in one handed for the catch leaving everyone at the game with their mouths hanging open, seriously, this was the catch of the season, awesome effort. Defence Chant - Can we please put a microphone on Logan Saniko who along with Sean Bullrush Gautusa led the team in tackles behind Joe. Everytime Logan cried out the defence chant before a play I couldnt make out what he was saying. I think he was saying Whos House? to which everyone replied, Runs House!!!. Other possible chants that were used include Hakuna!!! replied with MATATA!!!, This is? replied with SPARTAAA!!!. Regardless of what the chant was you could see it pumped up the Spears defence like blood in the water pumps up a great white shark. The 13 tackles for a loss by 7 different Spears players speaks for itself. Warriors - Regardless of the final score you have to tip your hat to the Tornadoes for never quitting as the score blew out fighting tooth and nail to the end to try and find a way to shut down the Spears and get some points of their own on the board. At the end of the day there are four other teams that didnt make the grand final and the Tornadoes went out on their shields. James Webster, Sean Gould and Benn Hunter were standouts on the defense for the Tornadoes. And there you have it, the Spears go out champions and I for one hope we get to see them square off against the Sydney Uni Lions in a club championship game whenever that game may be. Promises to be a cracker. Its been a pleasure writing up reviews for all of you this season and to be honest I dont know what Im going to do with myself in the off season not being able to play football and report on all thats happening in the ACTG. Hope everyone heals up in the off season and stays safe during the Christmas break. See you all next season. Cheers, Chimp
