Grandmothers. A grandmother is a woman who has no children of her own, so she loves the boys and girls of other people. Grandmothers have nothing to do, they only have to be there. If they take you for a walk, they go slowly past beautiful leaves and caterpillars. They never say come along quickly or hurry up for goodness sake. They are usually fat, but not too fat to tie up shoe laces. They wear spectacles and sometimes take out their teeth. They can answer any question, for instance why dogs hate cats and why God is not married. When they read to us, they never leave anything out. They dont mind if it is always the same story. Everyone should have a grandmother especially those who do not have a television. Grandmothers are the only grown ups who always have time. Written by an eight year old schoolboy. Which brings me to Young Daniel, my own grandchild, God keep him! I am blessed to have had the pleasure of his delightful company since before he was two years old and he is now 14 and asking sensible questions. Is it a big sin to tell a small lie Granny he wants to know? A small lie is the first tiny step on the road to perdition I tell him and in order to seal this statement in his pure mind for all time, I get out my Bible and we turn to Proverbs chapter 6 verse 12 and we read together: Let me describe for you a worthless and a wicked man; first, he is a constant liar; he signals his true intentions to his friends with eyes and feet and fingers. Next, his heart is full of rebellion . And he spends his time thinking of all the evil he can do, and stirring up discontent. But HE WILL BE DESTROYED SUDDENLY, broken beyond hope of recovery. Daniel is flabbergasted. Is it true Gran? Yes, Daniel. It is the Word of God Himself. Wow! Let us continue: For there are six things the Lord HATES - no, seven: Haughtiness ,Lying, Murdering, Plotting evil, eagerness to do wrong, a false witness and sowing discord among brothers. Is haughtiness number one he asks and is lying so bad that it actually is placed number two? I am really happy that he has spotted this. Now you know what I mean Daniel. What does the word haughtiness mean he wants to know? Haughtiness means pride Dan, and so serious is this fault, that Blessed Fulton Sheen says of it: Even God cant speak to the Proud and He looks at them from afar. God bypasses them. Only the humble find God. We conclude for that day with the following words: Follow my advice, my son, always keep it in mind and stick to it. Obey Me and LIVE! Guard my words as your most precious possession WRITE THEM DOWN. Also keep them deep within your heart. (Proverbs chapter 7 verse 1). Amen. .
