Grandparents as Parents, Come over to this timeline to start this campaign of getting school to start two days after Labor Day. Ity has always been that way since my generation has been growing up. Let your school districts be reminded of the real history behind Summer Vacation. Summer Vacation was originally started for young school-aged children to help on the family farm during the growing season and the beginning of the harvest to put food on the table for the winter months. Did we not forget this piece of history? I am sure some of you when you were younger had to help out on the family farm. Even some of the old time teachers. Thus, as well as having fun during the Summer time, we should take the moment to reflect on what Summer Vacation was really all about...Helping Family+seeing that our families do not go starving during the winter season=Quality Family Time. Thus, people should have the last hurrah of Summer on Labor Day Weekend with their loved ones as the next time we will be meeting with our loved ones will not be until Thanksgiving time when we give thanks for the blessings of having our loved ones throughout the year and also giving thanks for the plants that we grew into food during the growing season to be harvested to feed our loved ones and ourselves. Thus, the last Hurrah of summer time should not end with fret of starting school the day after Labor Day or having the children start school one or two days before Labor Day Weekend only to go to their loved ones for the last Hurrah and clog up our roads and bridges, both heading out on Labor Day Weekend and heading home right on the day of Labor Day. Let the people who are raising their grand children and are retired not have to rush home on Labor Day itself, so that they can come home the day after Labor Day when the traffic congestion on our roads and bridges had eased from the Labor Day travel itself. Anyone who agrees with me on this, please do not hesitate to call your school committee members and let them know that safety should always be paramount for all involved. Let them know that school should start on a good note, but, not on a sour note by traffic accidents, just because people have to rush home for children to start school the day after Labor Day. Lets make it forever that school starts in September and that the start date is no earlier then two days after Labor Day. With Warm Regards, Brian J. Coppola Brian J.
