Granny asked me if I dropped Musclepapa. Grrrrr...what she meant of course is related to the Facebook name listing. So after an hour long conversation on the legalese of Facebook not allowing business name for profile naming and how the URL is the same I waxed on about all manner of web marketing strategies. Google lost half of its business (me too) from web surfing as people now spend much more of their time on social media talking to their friends and on other social media like Instagram. Im obviously wrapped up heavily in it too. Business has to be. However, Musclepapa still exists and Ive redoubled my search engine optimization efforts associated with that site and new ones such as FloridaFitnessPhotography to build whats important that being.....profits. I speak to clients such as Lisa Marie Campbell yesterday telling her athletes need to find ways to convert their social media and other presence on the web into actual income not merely to get a sponsor as a following is required by sponsors now most instances. Musclepapa was a replacement for my prior URL bodybuildingfitnessfigure. The latter certainly doesnt roll off the tongue like Musclepapa. For years after obtaining that domain I felt a bit uncomfortable when people called me that. Fact is though it was a perfect sort of marketing win. Big marketing firms charge huge amounts to come up with names like Exxon with focus groups and psychologists collaborating with marketing experts. I throw crap on the wall to see what sticks sometimes. From a professional perspective it is nice to be known though by my actual name. Photos Ive shot over the years and videos produced for Flex, Muscle & Fitness Hers, Muscular Development, Fitness Rx Women & Fitness Rx Men all have John Hawley associated with them not musclepapa. Its nice to be able to find that when some client searches for the straight skinny on me with a google search. That said, my business centered around Florida photo and video Im now seeking to develop largely on the content housed at FloridaFitnessPhotography. The name says it all. Words have meaning and likewise make you money or potentially hurt your revenue generating potential. When people are looking for a Florida fitness photographer and plug in associated search terms in google I want and strive to have my business names come up as the result. I dont do these things by accident, but by design. Im not attached to any breast that Im milking for a 9-5 or a chance to work for someone that will underwrite me that affords me the opportunity to pay my bills and keep up with the times technologically. My existing clients and new ones underwrite me. My skill set and ability to market content is what puts food on my table and canned goods behind my seat as it were as I drive to my next assignment. Short answer, NO Granny I didnt drop Musclepapa :)
