Granthi burnt alive by Nihang family for gurdwara control in Amritsar villag AMRITSAR: A granthi was allegedly burnt alive by a Nihang Sikh after assaulting him in village Varpal to wrest control over the gurdwara. The police have registered a case against Nihang Shamsher Singh Shera and his family who have been missing ever since. Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar (rural) Manmohan Singh disclosed that Gurdwara Rori Sahib at Varpal village had been constructed on land of the Nihang but the gurdwara management was supporting Baba Lakha Singh of Guru Ka Bagh. On Friday night, the Nihang and his family members along with others allegedly thrashed the Granthi Waryam Singh and then set him on fire after tying him to bed. The SSP further said that the Nihang had terror links and was also a drug addict due to which the sangat of the village was against him running the gurdwara. Last year also, the Nihang had made an attempt to gain control of the gurdwara but the attempt was foiled. A case had been then registered against him and his family members.
