Grants awarded for Children and Young People’s Community Groups 11 Moorlands groups who provide services to and support children and young people have been awarded funds from The Children and Young People’s Fund that was created due to the closure of The Leek & Moorlands Community Toy Library earlier this year. When the charity closed the trustees voted to donate any financial assets back into the local community and have been supported by Support Staffordshire (Staffordshire Moorlands) to distribute accordingly. The popularity of the fund has meant that all the financial assets have now been allocated and, as the trustees requested, the Fund’s small pot of money has been distributed to voluntary and community groups that are based in the Staffordshire Moorlands and whose primary purpose is to support children and young people (up to the age of 16 years). Sally Bentley, Fund Administrator at Support Staffordshire (Staffordshire Moorlands) said, “We were extremely pleased with the response to the fund and are happy to have worked with the trustees of the Toy Library to ensure that the funds have been distributed around the Moorlands”. The groups that were awarded approximately £100 each are Wallbridge Pre-School, Pathways Childcare Centre, Home Start Staffordshire Moorlands, 2nd Leek Scout Group, St Luke’s Antenatal Group, Westwood Pre-School, Action West End, Tean Valley Netball Club, Ipstones Tiny Tots Nursery, Pop In Kingsley Holt and All Saints’ Kids Club. The funding has been put towards a wide variety of uses, including outdoor play equipment, toys, Christmas crafts, a Family Fun Day and new tents.
