Gratitude Challenge Day 5: 1) Im grateful for my parents, Susan - TopicsExpress

Gratitude Challenge Day 5: 1) Im grateful for my parents, Susan and Gene Kelly. Though they obviously gave me life, so that in and of itself is something to be grateful for, they also taught me how to live. My parents are two of the strongest, kindest people I know; any time anyone compliments me for being a good person (their words, not mine lol), I always credit my parents and aspire to be half the person they both are. My dad is the epitome of a self-made man, working since he was old enough to get a job, putting himself (and later one two of his kids) through college, paying off his students loans, paying off the mortgage on his house, and still never leaving his spouse of children in want for anything, material and emotional. Hes the pillar of strength in our family and the glue that holds us all together, rarely asking for help and always having a smile on his face despite whatever is going on. I dont know of a person with a truer heart than that man, selfless to the detriment of himself but somehow never seems to have a bad word to say against anyone. Anyone who knows me likely knows Ive been a Mamas Boy since day one; shes always one of my best friends and confidants. Shes been through more medical maladies than I probably even know of, and has emerged from all of them a fighter. Shes such an inspiration of strength to me to never give up no matter what I go through. I miss the days of coloring together and watching soaps together and coming home every day to vent to her (and the dog) about my day and she just somehow made it all better just by listening. My parent are true role models of who I aspire to be in life, and in what I hope to find in a marriage one day. 2) Im grateful for love and loss. People often joke that I attend more weddings than anyone (and I joke in return how my bank account hates me for that), but I am truly honored so many people deem me worthy of being a part of their special day, and that I get to watch the joining together of two people so in love so frequently; it gives me hope that I too will be able to find my soulmate and have a wedding to invite them all to one day. I also feel that I have been to more funerals than practically anyone my age, which is not typically something to boast about. I deeply miss everyone in my life who has passed, but am thankful that I was able to know and love so many incredible people whom I try to honor their memory. So I guess the loss section of this more so lends itself to the love aspect of it, but in any event Im thankful to have known so many amazing people in my life and ail hold them in my heart forever. 3) Im grateful for second chances, most notably a second chance at life. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life and hurt a lot of people, and I am fortunate enough that a good number of them have forgiven me and given me a second chance to prove me worthy of having them in my life. Conversely, I have often also been able to see beyond those who have hurt me and forgiven them for their misdeeds. It doesnt always result in a revived friendships, but at least Ive tried my best to eliminate the negative karma I would have otherwise left behind. Life is too short to go through it with hatred in your heart. And finally, on this list of gratitude, I touch upon what I am grateful most of all: a second chance at life. February 7, 2011 as become what I call my re-birth day; the day I woke up when I thought I didnt want to, and tried to ensure I didnt. It was obviously a very dark time in my life, and I have come lightyears since then. I cant even count the experiences I wouldnt have had and the people I wouldnt have met if my attempt had been successful and I can truly attest to the fact that It does get better. In lieu of the fact that this is technically an extra day of gratitude, Im going to re-nominate those who have yet to take on the challenge: Theresa Brennan, Jennifer Zuccaro, Jen Kelly, Kat Waugh, Michelle Ann (when she returns from Disney… so jealous!) and Monique Henry. Hop to it ladies! 5 days of listing 3 things youre grateful for, and nominating people (I have done anywhere from 1-4, or today 6 lol) to continue passing on the positivity.
