Great News!!! The Toy Library will now be opening up Monday Playgroups for all families with children from birth to three years of age. Historically, Monday playgroups have been for families with a special needs child. Due to falling numbers attending, last year we opened it up to supporting families who have had a similar experience, to come and offer support. Hence the name change from Special Needs Playgroup to Family Support Playgroup. Sadly our attendances have still been very low. Times are changing and families do not seem to want a playgroup where they are isolated from mainstream activities. I am currently acquitting the grants that provide our funding and preparing our submissions for the next financial year. With this in mind, I have approached parents from our Family Support Playgroup, our Family Playgroup and the Board of Management for their input. Our Friday playgroups, for families with children from birth to 3 years, are well supported and a very friendly and welcoming group. When asked if they would like to come to a playgroup on Monday’s, they welcomed the idea as there are not many activities for children of this age on this day. Commencing the 22nd of July, we will open up Monday playgroups for all families with the hope that those with a special needs child will attend and feel comfortable and well supported by other families. Family Playgroups will be held on Monday and Friday from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. The Central Australian Community Toy Library is a ‘not for profit’ organisation which aims to provide resources and activities for young families that they want and will support. Playgroup House will still be running a quiet Special Needs Playgroup on a Wednesday morning from 9.30 to 11.30. They can be contacted on 8953 4496. The Special Souls Support Group can also be a great comfort to families with a special needs child. They can be contacted on 0409 091 554. 3 Year Old Kindy We run six sessions of Kindy each week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Due to demand for positions, we have added two extra spots in the Afternoon Sessions, bringing them up to a 22 children in each group with 3 Educators the same as the morning sessions. If your child is three or about to turn three, and you would like them to attend, we currently have positions available in the afternoons.
