Homage to His Holiness Living Buddha Lian-Sheng, In Gratitude to his Transmission of the Great Relief for Calamities Mantra! Living Buddha Lian-Sheng, the root lineage guru of True Buddha School, is an authentic Vajrayana adept who has completed in-depth practice and study of the experiential insights and pith instructions of the Four Classes of Tantra. Merging into the Ocean of Vairocana (all encompassing ocean of dharma nature), he genuinely accomplished the Eight Outer Practices and the Eight Inner Practices. As a truly enlightened person, Living Buddha Lian-Sheng has attracted many to take refuge, totaling more than five million disciples to date. These disciples include Tibetan tulkus and lamas, and monks and nuns from the Sutrayana tradition. Living Buddha Lian-Sheng has requested from Mahasvara Buddha the transmission of the Great Relief for Calamities Mantra which is the most excellent dharma treasure to relieve the sufferings of sentient beings. “If someone chants this mantra, he can put a stop to calamities caused by fierce animals in the wilderness and calamities caused by water or fire. By chanting this mantra, the calamities will be eradicated.” (Chapter two of A Record of the Life of Shakyamuni Buddha Incarnate in volume seventy-five of the New Compilation of Continued Tripitaka Shinsan Zokuzookyoo.) The Great Relief for Calamities Mantra is also a divine mantra to be employed especially when there are big natural disasters. Living Buddha Lian-Sheng has stated, “Once this Great Relief for Calamities Mantra is put into motion, it will help to guard some of the survived refugees and refugees trapped in the affected areas. The mantra will prompt countries in the world to attach importance to the rescue work and urge public interest groups to carry out rescue work, so disaster aftermaths such as plagues will not happen.” (From the preface of book 179 of Sheng-yen Lu’s Falling Petals of My Dreams.) Apart from “prevention” and “protection,” Living Buddha Lian-Sheng also stated that this Great Relief from Calamities Mantra can enable those deceased victims in the disasters to attain bardo deliverance. Thus, this mantra is an extremely magnificent and remarkable mantra that benefits both living and deceased. Warning from Buddhas and Bodhisattvas: Disasters are Coming. Vajra Master Samantha Chou of True Buddha School is a student of Living Buddha Lian-Sheng. She has practiced the True Buddha Dharma diligently and attained yogic union with her Personal Deity and realized the Buddha-essence. Throughout her dharma teaching in twenty-eight countries around the world, she has helped countless individuals. Many people regard her as the “Living Guanyin.” On September 6, 2014, Master Samantha led the sangha team and students of Purple Lotus Temple to conduct the twentieth fire offering to the Earth Disasters Savior Tara. The goal of the fire offering was to supplicate to Tara for mitigation of upcoming earthquakes in California. During the fire offering, master received instructions from Tara that imminent disasters are not limited to just earthquakes, but that we should be prepared for disasters of a wider scope that include earth, water, fire, wind, and all illnesses including infectious diseases. Tara also compassionately showed Master Samantha a vision of the scenes of impending disasters: artillery fires, floods, people running… Every day we should chant a minimum of twenty-one times of the Great Relief for Calamities Mantra: Ta chi zha zha la, ta chi lu lou li, Mo he lu lou li, a la mo la, duo la, suo ha. Let us chant this mantra sincerely to help self and others to rid all calamities!
