Great Update: Today was the first day Shan was actually able to try stand and sit up on his own weight at the doctors behest: he is currently very awake and responsive. While he is unable to speak yet due to the presence of breathing apparatus, he is not just able to listen and comprehend, he is actually waving, giving visitors hugs and kissing hands!! He had a battery of cognitive tests today and was simply excellent (the nurse asked him if he was from Gambia, he shook his head no and nodded yes to Zambia!)The overall prognosis is looking pretty good at this point so they are expecting to move him out of the ICU and to physical rehab sometime soonest for further assessment.
