Great comment from a mom who attended our Transracial Workshop 6 - TopicsExpress

Great comment from a mom who attended our Transracial Workshop 6 years ago...Filling-in my first mandatory PPS [Portland Public Schools] “Student Race Ethnicity information form” for [my daughter] brings me back to the great trans-racial parenting workshop from Adoption Mosaic that we attended 6 years ago where Astrid warned us that we might need a thesaurus to figure out the real meaning of the seemingly simple terms : ” Ancestry, Ethnicity, origin, race, affiliation and identification” ...I didnt fully get it until today.. 1st question at the top is “Is your child of Hispanic or Latino origin? Easy : Yes.. 2nd question is What races do you consider your child (not what races is your child...) Hispanic or Latino is considered “Origin” but when it comes to race the choices are only Asian, black, White and Native American. You can put more than one yet nothing quite fits... ~ Sophie, kudos to YOU for your post and for creating awareness about the potential impact of something as simple as a PPS form!
