Great desire determines life’s affections and direction. Being“Single-Minded.” You will always seek who or what is important to you. You make time and priority for what you value. Desire and pursuit of God’s best for your life must be with clear intent. Established the conditions God sets, “You will seek Me and find Me, when you shall search for Me with all your heart. Seeking God must be with singleness of mind and undivided heart. . “One thing I have desired of the Lord and that will I seek: that I may dwell in the House of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire at His holy temple.” . “One thing . .” (1) Learn the power of priority. With one’s spiritual life, first things must be first and foremost; distraction is treacherous. “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” A problem comes when attention shifts from “one thing” to “all these things.” If you seek many things you will miss the One most essential. When knowing and serving the Lord is singularly important, it is no sacrifice to adjust all else as secondary. Paul’s priority was clear, “This one thing I do . . reaching for the things ahead, I press toward . . the upward call of God in Christ.” There is power in single-minded priority. For success, differentiate what you should do and what is only a waste of time, resource, and effort. “I have desired . .” Cultivate purity of passion. Passion directs and determines life.“The first and great commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart.” When you clarify your passion, you know where to pour your energies, commit your abilities, and give your best effort. Great desire determines life’s affections and direction. When God is your one great desire, love includes or excludes what best serves that desire. “That will I seek.” Preserve clarity of purpose. Don’t be distracted by lesser things; they may momentarily entice your interest, but don’t lose sight of Godly purpose. Distraction results in misdirection. When clear about your priority and passion, you can be steadfast in purpose. When Nehemiah faced opposition, even ridicule and threats to misdirect him, he said, “I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down [from restoring Jerusalem’s walls].” . I want my priority, passion, and purpose to be on only that which is eternal. Know your “great work” is knowing God. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light. Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
