Great excitement on the 31st December 1993, Perry, Trystan and I were invited to attend the UK TSA Press Launch with the news of the identification of the first of the TSC genes, TSC 2. (TSC1 was not identified until August 1997) Prof. Julian Sampson and his team from the Genetics Institute was present along with Ann Hunt, Tom & Anne Carter, Graham & Liz & dear JJ Harker from the UK Tuberous Sclerosis Association. The news brought with it great hope and a solid foundation to build upon with research development. There have been remarkable scientific advancements in understanding TSC in the 21 years since; we now have emerging treatments for some of the symptoms, proving beneficial for many. Much work remains to be done to improve outcomes for those living with this potentially devastating condition. Sadly many loved ones pay the ultimate price whilst waiting for improve treatment options and the search for a cure.A huge Thank You to all who continue to raise funds for TSC and to those who work tirelessly to improve the lives of those living with the condition.May 2015 be the year of greater advancements in combating this disorder and one which all families make memories to treasure.
