Great for Margaret and I to finally get this dopey bird on to our challenge lists this morning at Strandfontein... cant believe it has taken 7 months to bump into one! I remember back in the 80s and early 90s that these birds used to be a lot more common in the Cape Town area than they are now... Thanks to David Winter and Raven Van Der Colff for the heads up on this bird which seems to have been hanging out in this area for at least a week now. We arrived there just as the sun was starting to hit the reeds and it was sitting up catching the first rays of sun and warming up in the early morning - it was literally the first bird we saw when we arrived. Took a little bit longer to manage to get a record shot though just to prove that we had seen it...;) This now takes my challenge list up to 315 and Margarets up to 289. Not too many obvious species still left to hunt down now. I wonder what an achievable end target is going to be...? Lots of good fun though...:D
