Great interview! You should watch through out. I feel him all the way when expressing his frustration w/ finding it hard to judge three of the same variations on dancers w/o clarity of technique seen in the movement performed. It usually seems as if students are just doing steps, which is what they are told. Then you wonder can they really perform. I tell my students all the time to dance and perform at the barre to develop self expression, which you transform to the stage and present character. So conditioning at the barre is key to optimal performance that you have to not just continue performing a step w/ improper technique, but to practice perfect technique or just do it correct. Dont just have your main focus on that one solo performance, but work in class to be the best dancers you can be and not cookie cutter on the stage.
