Great news! Not only did I meet 3 very nice women today (all with very thankful hearts - I got LOTS of hugs) to pick up our give-away stuff, I also was able to donate the old dodge neon to one of them for their granddaughter. It needed the alternator fixed but her husband works on cars so he said he could fix it up. We could have fixed it and got $1500 for the car, but I felt the Holy Spirit nudging me just give it to them. Generally speaking, my husband and I dont talk specifics about our giving...we dont even put our name on our offerings at church- BUT, I am sharing this because I wanted to encourage those around me to give....this move has been such an eye opener to me... 1) I have a LOT of stuff- stuff that I dont need but it isnt junk so I cant just dump it..BUT there are people who DO need it 2) There are regular people (just nice hard working people) that will take your old bedding because their need is that great- seriously.not kidding. 3) I have much more to give away...I just need to look around the house...someone wants mine AND your over abundance and will be far more grateful for it, which leads me to #4 4) I take my stuff for granted 5) I dont have a storage unit but keeping stuff in tubs locked up in a closet is the same thing- storage units have a purpose BUT seriously, it is a multi-million dollar industry....we all have tooooo much stuff! 6) most importantly- Freely you have received, freely give. (Mat 10:8) Having so much stuff is really just a burden- it is more to clean up, more to move, more to insure, more to be prideful about. I am oh so thankful that God has allowed me a great job, a sweet child, a loving husband...and I really just desire to be a better steward of what He has given me. So now that we are moved, my next goal is to not only unpack stuff but to unload stuff and put it hands that need it, not just want it or have it. May we all start sharing not only our time but our assets...today I learned a very valuable lesson.
