Great post from my dear friends and business partners, Lance and Tracey Smith. Bears repeating here: To my Network Marketing friends, Today I want to discuss a sensitive topic called “paid as rank.” The reason why I want to be careful here is that; • I don’t want to come across as look at me. (I simply want to make a point) • I don’t want to offend any of my friends who have hit large ranks in our industry but get paid much less. • Finally, I don’t want to minimize the success of people who have hit and maintain large ranks within our industry. (There are many and they have my respect) Your paid as rank is an extremely important topic that is rarely discussed. What has been discussed a lot lately is that; “This former Ambassador left this to go to that” or “This Presidential Black Diamond left here to go there.” Early in my career I watched a lot of people sky rocket in our industry only to disappear as fast as they came in. Since I was only 21 years old and had decided to make this my career, I studied not only what makes our industry grow, but also what makes it stop. The formula for a “Bottle Rocket” is simple and goes something like this; • John and Mary join company “XYZ.” • John & Mary grow early and start to get noticed by the leaders in XYZ • John & Mary don’t want to disappoint, so they push their people to do more and buy more. • John & Mary hit a high rank but want to hit a higher one… They ask their teams to push harder and buy more. • John & Mary hit an elite rank and now are asked to go speak around the country. They now stop doing what they did to grow • John and Mary spend money to show they have the “lifestyle” of a leader. • John and Mary’s group settles back to the level it really should have been and John & Mary’s income plummets. • John & Mary are mad at their group and the group (full of product) gets mad at John & Mary • John & Mary’s group goes backwards and John & Mary lose credibility from their team (although no one else knows it) • John & Mary, struggling financially from their recent purchases start to place blame on XYZ. John & Mary, with no credibility with their own team, take an offer to join company “ABC.” They then use the credibility they received in Company XYZ to recruit frustrated distributors of that company to join them. Ted posts this couple on his businessforhome website and everyone is now concerned about company XYZ…. Sorry if I offend anyone here… but this is just getting old! We MUST stop the madness! Here is another philosophy that has served me and my teams well! • Once you hit a rank, secure that rank before you move up. • Never push your team to help you hit a rank, push yourself to help your leaders in depth hit ranks. • Set you goals based on income... if you cross a rank along the way celebrate it! • Help enough people in depth get what they want and you will always get what you want • Never buy things to impress your people. Your vision and attitude will impress your leaders much more than your stuff. • Never stop doing what you did and always give away the attention and credit We have taught and lived this philosophy for over 25 years and promise you that it works if you want to make this your career… That said, It’s time for Tracey and I to move up a few ranks! Carry on….
