Great start to Wrigley Day with a special surprise treat. Call me - TopicsExpress

Great start to Wrigley Day with a special surprise treat. Call me corny, but the National Anthem is a big part to any Sporting Event I attend. The day before paying my last respects to my Dad in July of 2000, I attended a Mets Doubleheader. That day, when they played the anthem the emotion caught up with me that I had taken for granted the feeling of having Dad next to me at a game my entire life. From that Met game forward, that minute or two has me think back to how lucky I was to have him in my life. Back to today. A gentleman named Wayne Messmer has long been my personal favorite in singing the National Anthem. For you hockey fans, Messmer was the voice of the Chicago Blackhawks. The "Anthem" became an event, especially a playoff game. In 1994, Messmer was shot in the throat after a night in the Chicago Theatre District and was subsequently let go by the Hawks. Today at the Cubs game, to my surprise, Wayne Messmer was announced as the Anthem singer...........Felt like a kid on Christmas morning. Simply the best.........
