Great story from Jon Dee Graham. SO IM ON MY WAY to my show in San Angelo yesterday, and i have an old-school blow-out. Im not going into the whole story here, but I will lay-out the elements: spare tire but no jack; cell-phone but no service; highway but no passing cars; rescued by an 85 year-old rancher named Dan Jacoby who climbed over the fence from his pasture with a 4-ft tall pump jack slung over his shoulder and saved my ass. Occasionally I forget what my people are really like. I was helped out of a very tight spot by a funny, humble, smart and tough as nails man 30 years my senior. At one point he sees the guitars and says I used to play a little. I ask Really? Whatd you play? He says I use to fiddle with the women. As we were parting I asked if I could give him something for his trouble and he said: Yessir, you can. You can give me your word youll buy a goddamn jack. Thank you Dan Jacoby. Thank you Texas. Now Im on my way to buy a new tire. And a goddamn jack.
