Great talks for gardeners at The Flavel Arts Centre Two well-known gardening experts, Anne Swithinbank and Bob Sweet, will be giving green-fingered listeners the benefit of their knowledge on Saturday 21 June at 7pm as a highlight of Dartmouth Green Partnerships’ Midsummer Flower Festival. Anne Swithinbank, well known as a panellist on Radio 4’s ‘Gardeners’ Question Time’, will talk about her two-acre garden in East Devon. As well as practical gardening knowledge from her time at Kew and Wisley, Anne has a huge amount of experience in journalism, radio and TV – for five years she was part of the team of BBC 2’s ‘Gardeners’ World’ and still makes guest appearances, and has presented Channel 4’s ‘Bloom’ series, ‘Gardens of the Caribbean’ and the Chelsea Flower Show Horticultural expert Bob Sweet recently retired from heading up the team of show managers at the Royal Horticultural Society after 17 years with the organisation. A horticultural examiner and experienced UK national judge, he introduced Britain in Bloom to the RHS and helped to develop RHS judging to become a leader in its field. He will talk about his experience as a judge at Chelsea and other international events, and what goes on behind the scenes. Bob has been in horticulture all his life, with a career in landscaping and parks management and a record of winning ten gold medals in ten years as former Parks Director in Torbay – invaluable practical experience for his judging work. theflavel.org.uk
