Great thinkers you should know about... Remember this fella named William Herschel? Probably not. If you do, its for one of his greatest discoveries: Uranus. Done sniggering? Uranus was very important, because it was the first planet discovered with a telescope, and Herschels the guy who did that. But, something even more remarkable--he was the first person we know of who suspected that the universe was made up of galaxies, cities of stars, that were far, far, far apart from one another. That was in the late 1700s. It took until Edwin Hubble with the Mount Wilson Observatory in the 1920s to confirm Hershels outlandish idea.
