Great trip with Donnie to Moundville! The kids in his class are great kids! I really enjoyed the trip! My only disappointment was with what the Native American Festival has become. In the past the emphasis was on the history. There were numerous people, most of which were native american, demonstrating various skills and activities of everyday life of the distant past. Living history demonstrations of various time periods and peoples. These things are still present but on what seems a smaller scale and pushed way back to the rear of the festival area, farthest away. Instead, the first thing you see when you walk into the festival area, the biggest eye catcher, is the vendor area where all the cheesy fake souvenirs are for sale. Some of that is fine and some of the vendors have good handmade items. I personally would like to see more native american demonstrations and less vending. Let the gift show sell souvenirs! I am planning to take the family to Moundville on a regular weekend and teach them about the history of the place!
