Great wisdom from a gentlemen & dear friend! It isnt the recgonition or accolades but the journey & what youve gained along the path that matters most! Got to thinking about titles and rank. Before I was a Hanshi/Kyoshi/ Renshi/Shihan - - I was just Sensei. I remember when that was the only goal - Black Belt.... the titles are nice and well deserved for you and me as well. I certainly appreciate the recognition and want to remember to elevate my Black Belts as well. But in the end, the only rank that matters is Black Belt. Important to remember that success is the breeding ground of pride and it is easy for us to bel...ieve our own press. As Roger Greene puts it - the older I get, the better I was.... A legend in my own mind. Titles are separate from rank and are important within your own organization - thats all. They are necessary to advance your own students and recognize the skill / experience of your black belts so they can assume positions of authority. In corporate America this would be called succession planning. Necessary stuff. Call me Hanshi on the mat - but outside the dojo, Dan will work just fine. Warmest Regards to all of the Black Belts and Yudansha in the USKK organization. Hanshi Dan Kennedy
