Green Muslims of New Jersey (GMNJ), Founder and Co-Chair Saffet A. Catovic(and ISCJs very own), participates in Global Action programs for the Environment. Religions for the Earth Conference: In anticipation of the United Nations Climate Summit of World Leaders and the Peoples Climate March, the world renowned - Union Theological Seminary in NYC hosted a multi-day international conference titled: Religions for the Earth (9/19-9/21). More than 200 religious and spiritual leaders from across the world were invited and gathered at Union Theological Seminary conference, including GMNJs Founder and Co-Chair, Saffet A. Catovic. The conference provided a unique platform for the world’s ethical leaders to voice the concerns and commitments of the spiritual and faith traditions. Participants were prepared through the workshops and presentations to use their reach and influence to galvanize faith-based action to care for the natural world and in support of a just climate treaty and social justice issues to protect the most vulnerable among us. Islamic Relief - Worldwide Forum: In the midst of UN Climate Week (9/24) - Islamic Relief World-wide hosted a special event at the UN Church Center titled: Islamic approaches to achieve environmental sustainability. Attendees to the conference included religious leaders, environmental activists, representatives from several nations and the UN. A summary of the half day forum is attached. The main presenters at the conference were: Dr. Muhtari Aminu-Kano, a native of Nigeria and Senior Policy Advisor on Poverty Reduction, from Islamic Relief and Hajj Fazlun Khalid, leading world renouned Islamic Eco-theologian and Founder of the Islamic Foundation for Ecology & Environmental Sciences- IFEES from the United Kingdom. Saffet A. Catovic of GMNJ and Reverend Fletcher Harper of Executive Director of GreenFaith were the respondants.
