Green Scenery Banned In Malen The local authorities at Sahn Malen in the Malen Chiefdom, Pujehun District have reportedly placed a temporary ban on the activities of an environmental Non Governmental Organization, Green Scenery for allegedly inciting farmers and local land owners against foreign investors. At a public meeting held on Saturday March 15, 2014 at the Court Barray in Sahn, the local authorities frowned upon the behavior of Green Scenery in trying to whip up public anger against Socfin Agricultural Company. Green Scenery had apparently complained to a cross party Parliamentary group that Socfin was in the habit of grabbing commercial land from some local farmers in the Malen Chiefdom without compensation. The cross party Parliamentary group visited Sahn and held town hall meetings with some of the so-called aggrieved land owners. To the shock and dismay of the cross party Parliamentary group, Green Scenery had no evidence to back up their wild allegations against Socfin. A senior local authority in the Malen Chiefdom publicly accused Green Scenery of trying to create unrest in their chiefdom by allegedly supporting rebellious groups like MALOA (Malen Land Owners Association). Green Scenery has denied the allegation. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the cross party Parliamentary group that visited Malen said it was very sad that a reputable INGO like Green Scenery would attempt to mislead Parliament. “It is a serious crime to mislead Parliament”, he said. He disclosed that the cross party Parliamentary group leaders have vowed never again to give audience to Green Scenery because of their sustained attempt to maliciously discredit Socfin. Green Scenery’s boss in Sierra Leone, a former secondary school teacher, Joseph Rahall was not available for comment last night. “Green Scenery have lost any iota of credibility they had by misleading the nation’s Parliament”, observed a senior local journalist based in Sahn. Socfin’s General Manager and the company’s spokesman, Phillip Tonks and Easmon Moiguah respectively refused to comment on the issue last night.
