Greenville Leader News - May 9, 1930 Death Summons Dr. T.J. Slaton Was Practicing Physician In County For More Than 50 Years: Served In Confederate Army In General Assembly 1906-08 Dr. Thomas Jefferson Slaton, 90 years old, died at his home here Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Slaton was one of the best known men in Muhlenberg county, and for more than fifty years was actively engaged in the practice of medicine in Greenville and surrounding territory. It was said of him that he never refused to go when called, no matter what weather conditions might be, or whether the patient could payor not. His many years of active practice brought him in intimate contact with almost every family in the county, and he was held in high esteem, both on account of his professional skill and honor, and the high type of life which he led. Dr. Slaton served in the Southern army in the war between the states, and was the last Confederate soldier residing in Greenville. He was a member of the lower House of the General Assembly, from Muhlenberg county, 1906-08. He is survived by his widow and one son, Dr. Henry Y. Slaton, of Greenville. Funeral services for Dr. Thomas Jefferson Slaton, 90 years old, who died at his home here last Wednesday afternoon, were held from the Methodist church at 2: 30 Friday afternoon, and were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. K.L. Rudolph. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.
