Greetings everyone! The holidays are finally behind us, the new year is in swing and it is just about tax refund time! :D We are all connected to KI in so many different ways - retirees, officers, enlisted, spouses, dependents, civillian employees and contractors, media, current residents & employees - or any number of other ways. The one thing we all know is that there is a long and rich heritage & history surrounding the base - and through Facebook we have all been able to enjoy that through stories, pictures and re-connections. Robert Vick and the volunteer staff at the K I Sawyer Heritage Air Museum are also doing their very best as at preserving the history and keeping everyones memories alive for future generations and visitors to enjoy, reflect and learn from. They have several static display aircraft located around the base, numerous items on display in museum at the old Rec Center & Auditorium along with a ton of documentation, books, photos and equipment. There are also exhibits on loan or display elsewhere in the community as well. However - maintaining all of this history comes at a substantial cost for space, utilities and upkeep - and the Air Force doesnt subsidize it. Keeping the heritage and history alive at the museum and static displays has come mostly by the grace of others - including many people in all the KI related FB groups. That being said - the museum still needs our help. It will always need our help if it is to continue to live on well past the closure of the base and the historical importance be recognized for future generations. There are literally thousands of us KI folks on FB groups, and if even 1/4 of us were to offer even a minimal amount of assistance - it would sure take the history & preservation significantly into the future. There is no gentle way to ask for help - but the Museum has a website with a lot of information on it, and has the ability to accept donations online - as little as $25. If you are at all able to - every penny and every donor helps, so please dont rely on others in the KI FB communities to fill the void. There is also a mailing address on the page if you prefer to send a check. You can access the site here: kishamuseum.org/donate.php For those who are still in the region - other forms of help are welcome also. Skilled labor in electrical, plumbing, groundskeeping, building and aircraft display maintenance and painting, material, snow removal, promotion/advertisement & community awareness, museum staff & tour guides... any number of things can help. Reach out to Bob directly and let him know how you can help. Whatever you can do... thank you!
