Greetings friends, Today something a bit different for me, or us here. Since joining the Beatles band which we yet to have a name for I have been studying George Harrisons guitar playing since that is whos part I play in the band. We try to learn 2 to 3 new songs a week and things are moving nicely. One of the new songs this week is Rain. That is a very cool psychedelic song. In this song John and George are tuned to two different alternate tunings which makes it very fun and interesting. Once the song was recorded it was slowed down just a bit to give the drums a fatter sound. Georges guitar is tuned to open G tuning but since it is played on the four highest strings all you have to do is tune the high E down to a D and you have an open G chord on the four highest strings. This song has a true droning sound to it made by playing multiple strings at once even with the melody going. But the melody is simple my friends so no worries. It is more important to get the right sound. So I am using my 62 Blackstar III with Dearmond pickups and the guitar and amp should be set to get the most trebly sound from it. You do not want to use much if any reverb since it drones well playing multiple strings at once. The song has some studio trickery at the end like backward vocal but the guitar is played straight all the way through. So here is the correct way to play Georges part in Rain. I hope you enjoy it and hopefully some of you might even try to learn it. It a fun song to play and one of my favorite Beatles song. In fact, when the guys first brought it up to play I thought there was no way I could do this song, but its all in the setup. Enjoy. MB-MGG
