Greetings from Ferguson! After a long day of travel and stomping pavement as soon as we hit the ground, I am thoroughly exhausted for the evening. It was raining here this evening, but that did not hamper the local community from exhibiting a marvellous display of protest and solidarity, as well as gracious hospitality for those joining from out of town. From the way I witnessed things, the police are SCARED TO DEATH of overstepping their bounds again, and now that they are neutralized, the community was just beginning to be able to start coming together in spite of the tradgedy that had taken place here only a few days ago. I have observed that most of the community is moving away from riotous acts, and are starting to move forward with a solid and distinct demands for justice now that the police no longer threaten them with teargas, rubber bullets, and batons. Thankfully, I have not had to use any medical supplies as of yet, and hope this pattern continues. The only emergency I know of is a dominoes two blocks from where I was staged was burning down around 11, but I have not heard anything as to whether it was an accidental fire or if any malicious intent was involved. Met a ton of awesome people down there, and was surprised when Jesse Jacksons car just pulled up right in front of where I was standing and he got out to visit with the people and to speak with a correspondent from Fox news. I actually really appreciated Jacksons argument today because he was concise and truly representative of the communitys will in the message he conveyed to Fox without bloating the message at all. There are several other well-known people there that I will talk about when I sift through all this video and compile it. Tomorrow the team was invited to hang out with a local youth fraternity for a couple hours in the afternoon to early evening after the silent lunch and afternoon march in order to dine together and discuss poetry, and the overall state of affairs here, as well as what they are doing to change the community. These young people are very dedicated to community outreach here at such a young age, and I am very proud of them and their strides to help improve the quality of life around them. I will attempt to get a quasi in-depth interview before all is said and done. Apparently there is supposed to be a HUGE turnout on Sunday for the protest- including live performances from some stars and what have you, so I am excited to see how many people will be there. I dont want to spoil all the fun for you before I publish all the video, but ill upload some pictures so you can see the power of unity!
