Greetings to all: My name is TONY WITTS and I am the VICE - TopicsExpress

Greetings to all: My name is TONY WITTS and I am the VICE PRESIDENT of the ST. PETERSBURG BICYCLE CLUB (SPBC). At this time, I would like to address the current situation involving FACEBOOK policy, the BOARD OF DIRECTORS (BOD), and going forward with FACEBOOK. I am not on FACEBOOK, so I have asked JOHN SINIBALDI to post this message. 1) The club has a policy whereby the BOD selected administrators to admit users and monitor the day to day status of our SPBC account. 2) If one of these administrators finds material not deemed suitable for our page, specifically posts that do not relate to our goals of promoting cycling in the community, they were to remove and suspend the account immediately. 3) Once suspended, this person has the ability to appeal this decision to the BOD at the next board meeting. Our goal, since this is a site that is visited by a large number of people, is to be quick to react, yet give due process to those who feel this removal and suspension was unwarranted. Subsequently, a board member made a request for a vote to reinstate one of the parties, and that request was granted. This vote came in at 5-4 against reinstatement. This vote was tallied by the SECRETARY of the BOARD and was given status as a legitimate vote. Unfortunately, there were postings made that were incorrect, and this sadly caused a good deal of confusion. With that being said, the appeals process is firmly in place. However, both parties have declined, at this time, to exercise their ability to do so. I would remind both parties that they can still appeal this matter before the board, with 72 hours notice before the next board meeting on APRIL 5th (time and place TBD). At this time, MARK YEAGER, has stepped down as PRESIDENT of the club citing outside business commitments in his letter to the board. The BOD has accepted his resignation. As a past PRESIDENT, there is a tremendous amount of time we have to put into for this volunteer organization. I completely understand his decision to do so. I, along with the rest of the BOD, want to thank MARK for all the hours, experience, and donations he has brought to the club this past year. I wish to remind everyone that in MID-MAY, we will be having this year’s election of the BOD (date and time TBD). I would encourage anyone who feels passionate about this club to get on the ballot and run for the board. After this term, I will not be running again. I have served on this board for 2-1/2 years as TREASURER, PRESIDENT, and now VICE-PRESIDENT. I firmly believe it’s time for someone else to have their day on the board. This is how you grow a club like the SPBC. Going forward, I would hope that this clears up any misunderstanding that may have been caused by the recent events on FACEBOOK. I am not a personal fan of social media. However, to ignore it is to stick you head in the sand. As one BOD member said in an email over the weekend, “Principles last longer than personal feelings”. Thank you and as always, TRAVEL SAFE. Sincerely, TONY WITTS Vice President SPBC
