I know we shouldn’t complain about the cool weather we have had…..but the cloudy days & cool temps combined in consecutive days …..well just not normal for Texas Weather….! Not that I am ready for the about 85 temps yet …..I just like that nice area between 60-80…no Heat no A/C…Windows open and Fresh Air….!!! Anyway enough small talk……wanted to let you bout a Special Event with the S & W Health Plan Group Tuesday Feb 10th 6:00 – 8:00 pm The focus is on how to get healthier……and that Dancing....is another great way to Exercise….it’s more fun (for some of us) and it still benefits you all over…..mind, body & soul….! We will be doing a Dance Lesson…..probably 45–50 minutes…take a short break, do another 30-40 minute lesson …then let the music play & dance for the last little bit of time….. Benefits include physical, mental & social. And is changing the way people feel about exercise, and themselves! Below are some examples of the Benefits that Dance can bring to your life. Cardiovascular: There are dances that are smooth & slower tempo but still will get your heart rate working. And then there are many dances that will really get your heart rate up working! Either way it gets you moving & many students have seen improvement in their overall blood pressure & cholesterol readings just by dancing 2 – 3 hours a week in classes & at Friday Night Dance Events. Muscle Tone: Dancing, combines the perfect blend of isometric and isotonic resistance, the two key ingredients to muscle building and toning. You will experience improved muscle tone through dancing. Joints: According to the American Journal of Medicine, the best way to avoid arthritis, early arthritis and to remedy current joint discomfort is to continue to use the joints in a controlled manner. What could do this more perfectly than dancing? Posture and Balance: The frame or posture maintained while dancing can help correct bad posture habits with persistence and practice. As your posture improves, so will your balance. Self Esteem and Confidence: Many people experience a Personal Growth through the experience of Learning to Dance. They find a new dimension to their personality that has been locked up inside waiting to come out..! Others discover a new found Confidence. And for some it is overcoming a personal fear by performing in front of people. A whole new person evolves through dance. Psychological Escape: No matter what you do in life, you’ve got to take a break sometime! Dancing provides a temporary escape from everyday stress and pressure. You check all that at the door when you enter your Dance Class and for an hour give your brain a break. Sometimes that break will give you more energy to deal with the stressors in a different way. Social Benefits: Regardless of your shape or size or age, dancing opens doors for meeting new people. Dancing will add a new and beneficial dimension to your life. It is a lifetime social skill that will provide much joy. Words cannot explain the joy of dancing. It must be experienced! Overall Fitness: There is a Dance for everyone..and nothing about Dance is bad for you..! But set realistic expectations. Don’t look to lose weight just because you start dancing unless you want to dance say….20 hours or so every week. But it may very well be another benefit from dancing & you may lose some inches & gain a few pounds from muscle tone & that too would be an added benefit! SHALL WE DANCE?
