Grimms 2014-Best Actor: Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy- Chris Pratt was someone who until this year was not on my radar at all but whos suddenly leaped forward in the pack to ensuring that theres a massive buzz of excitement around anything that hes involved in. Starting with a fantastic everyman voice turn as Emmet in The Lego Movie and already with a lead role in next years Jurassic World. It was in his role as the cocky, roguish and loveable Peter Quill aka Star Lord though where everyone the world over seemed to take him to heart. Far far FAR from the clean cut do-gooder or Captain America and the moody pouting of Spider-Man, Pratt plays Quill as a fumbling yet street smart goof who only gets by though a mixture of luck and extreme fluke, usually using his pelvic sorcery to get out of tricky situations hes made for himself. Quill is the definition of anti-hero and why they can often be more popular and interesting. Hes flawed and fundamentally not a good guy (but he is really) and its because of this that hes a more relateable character. He wants to be Han Solo but with his love of classic 80s tracks and prizing his walkman above all things, Quill is a hero of the people and Pratt does such a brilliant job of making him the most engaging screen presence of the year, even when surrounded by a talking tree, talking raccoon, a green lady and an overtly literal Batista in lots of make-up.
