Gringo Hipster Bar in Latin area of Brooklyn: Knickerbocker Brooklyn Hipster Bar (see video in comments) This establishment stuck out and is so salient that it is hard not to notice. A trendy designed bar, quaintly stuck between a Latin American deli, nail salons, and barbers, and kiddy clothing shops for working class migrants.... Places like this become cool hang outs just in the solitary isolation in has, injuxtaposition to all around. People feel a tiny bit, of what white tourists feel in places such as Cambodia, Katmandu, Thailand, where they all huddle together collected in a shared similarity, yet all those huddled share nothing with the folk you meet on the street, who are never found inside the colonial venue. The New Apolo is a Latin and Chinese Restaurant with beer for 3 dollars a bottle. The owners and staff are Chinese. They are just doing business, and a so down to earth. They actually have a near full bar too. In evenings older Latin men spend their time there. It just does not have the ubiquitous Johnny Cash or Tom Waits music playing in the background, and no self indulged characters at the bar. New Apolo is just across the street. I never see the hipsters or new white middle class migrants in the Dominican diner where I get my pig tongue and blood sausage, just near here. They tend to eat at those trendy places, that like the bar in the photo above, stand out not just from exterior, but the looks of the folk existing and entering. (pasted from earlier post) The Hipster set up their quasi-colony surrounded by natives, and their identity is more profoundly felt as they walk amongst them, and erect their venues that come to pepper the the streets with older grocers and shops, that are basically utilitarian in fashion and design, as opposed to the Hipster venues that are utterly contrived for full visual affect and identity crisis healing, however shallow that healing is.
