Grooming is a gift a man gives himself. I was surprised to find - TopicsExpress

Grooming is a gift a man gives himself. I was surprised to find in this new disposable world, what passes for a razor. Out of curiosity I purchased one and shaved with it. Indeed it did give an effective shave, and the excellent precision was commendable. The closeness was comparable to a descent barber, but it was lacking something. The act of grooming, and particularly the shave, is in itself an act of love and affection. The time and attention paid is the moment in life when the subject and the actor become one, in celebration of that most wonderful of beings, the self. To rush is to esteem oneself poorly. For those who avoid all together … well … how can I trust a man that can’t even look at himself in a mirror? For this I am most happy that I brought my straight razor with me. There is no proper quickness when using a straight razor if a man is to demonstrate any skill at all. The disposable razor removes from the process any need of skill or time. It is as if man said, “Oh no, it is inconvenient for me to embrace my visage and sharpen my look. I would rather throw my money away than invest in myself.” Dreadful. More so that there is no effort or desire to maintain the tool which gets closer to the man than any other. He would rather throw it away then engage in a relationship with the elegance of a finely crafted instrument. Perhaps this speaks to the relationships one has as well. Yes, indeed, I do not trust a man that does not value himself enough to tend, in some way, to his toilet in the morning. I am suspicious of those who do so with quick disposable solutions. There is always time for a shave. It is the small gift I give myself, and the man in the mirror rewards me suitably for my efforts.
