Grow high density plants to enhance production: Agri Deptt JAMMU, JANUARY 16: A farmer field day programme was conducted by Monsanto Holdings Private Ltd in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Jammu today at village Panjore of zone Mishriwala. On the occasion, Ashok Kumar Malhotra, Joint Director, Agriculture (Extension), Jammu addressed the farmers and expressed his great satisfaction that the vegetable growers of Mishriwala-Kanachak area are adopting advance technologies of cultural practices for cauliflower crop and growing improved varieties to enhance their production in terms of yield and quality. He advised the farmers to give thrust on rain water harvesting and to diversify their agriculture activities so as to improve their socio-economic status. He, further, emphasized on the use of vermicomposts for conversion of foliage, cowdung and other farm wastes into invaluable organic manure. Shewata Early variety of cauliflower grown on one acre area in the field of Sh Sudesh Kumar S/o Sh Dwarka Nath was shown to the farmers. After visiting the field the farmers while giving feedback said that the variety grows with a strong plant vigor giving compact white curds ranging from 2 to 3 kgs in weight on an average. The crop matures early in about 65-70 days thus giving space for next cauliflower or other crops. Later on the Joint Director inspected the Hi-tech nurseries of hybrid onion (Perfecto), cauliflower (Taj Mahal, Hansa) and cabbage (Green Voyager) being grown by the farmers of the area. Narendra Kumar, Territory Manager, Monsanto Holdings Pvt Ltd said that main objective of the field day was to introduce the Shewata Early variety of cauliflower among the farmers and to show the quality of curd and other features at the level of farmers’ acceptance. By introducing this variety the farmers get better choice for growing cauliflower hybrid in early sowing (August-Mid September) window. Information Officer, Directorate of Agriculture, J C Raina, AEO, Zone Mishriwala Sh Mohan Singh Jamwal, JAEO, Kanachak, Sh Nirmal Parkash and REZs of area also attended the field day programme.
