Growing up, I recall that Christian men of God WARNED political - TopicsExpress

Growing up, I recall that Christian men of God WARNED political leadership about repercussions for misrepresenting and abusing privileged occupation of office. I also recall that they PROPHESIED with many of their prophecies boldly published in national dailies. Once at ECWA Church Wuse 2 Abuja, (in 1995 I think), I remember a certain man of God by name Makinde seriously warning the government of General Sani Abacha with Gen. Oladipo Diya, the Deputy Head of that government seated in the front row during that church service. I admired how he fearlessly lampooned them on how blessings only come to nations whose God is the Lord. When leaders are engrossed in politics and its attendant avarice, servants of God, prophets and preachers stand in the gap on behalf of the land. They pray for healing. They pray for succor. They pray for peace. For no pay or say, they take upon themselves the responsibility of interceding for the land. They would, in their closets and in tears and cries of revealed pain and anguish pray for our nation. The Fellowship of Christian students would embark on fasts that evil should be staved off. God heard. This body of Christians where equally forloned, they were also faced with challenges of survival and fleshly deprivations. They however were made of different stuff. They were not for the milk of Christianity alone. They were not for the long robes with golden cross pendants showcasing the shallow blinks of earthly vanity. These Christians cooked with kerosene stoves and their meals were delicious. They didnt need to pump their congregations for tithes and special offerings to enable purchase of land for church building or for SUVs that speak in tens of millions. They were content with little, they were true Christians. Agree or not, a large chunk of our national problems is borne out of a dearth of truly saved men of God. I say this with a layer of measured confidence because by their fruits we are told, we would know them. There seems to just be one religion in Nigeria and it seems to be ARELIGIONITY. Do we look like a nation that has been visited by God in 30 years? Does Nigeria look like a country that hosts the Holy Spirit? Do you think that the Hosts of Heaven have as little as a ward office here? God, wherever God is has a clear distinct aura that the people experience. Miracles happen, peace exists, the people prosper. Prosperity today is when someone has hammered. Thats is of course not what the Bible is about. The concluding summary of this piece is that we have a broken down nation because we have very poor Christian leadership. The Shepherds have been struck and flocks have scattered to deaths on expressways, darkness in homes, sickness enhancing health facilities, and unfortunate more. If the fulcrum of your church leadership is indiscriminate prosperity, your message is not for now. If the focus of your gathering is dominion over poverty, disease and sickness, you are in a wrong calling. What Nigeria needs today is word about repentance and return to our values as instructed in the Bible. We need to seek God first. Seeking God is not to meet targets of getting a job or getting protection from office oporession. It is not about overcoming witches and wizards. These are by results of diligent pursuit of God and the righteousness demanded from responsible Christians. Nigeria will change when we stop this cosmetic, investment laced transactional relationships espoused beautifully on desecrated altars by sweet speaking men of God presiding over large congregations having a form of religion, BUT DENYING THE POWER THEREOF. This update does not seek to be liked, neither does it seek to be shared. It is my hope however that it will stir the right sentiments and provoke positive Christian action.
