Growing up as a kid, I always wanted to be a footballer. I - TopicsExpress

Growing up as a kid, I always wanted to be a footballer. I idolized the likes of David Beckham, Gary Neville, Alan Shearer and the whole 1998 World Cup England team. I practiced hard to get myself into the school football team. My late father supported my interest, but I remember a quote he once told me, which I will never forget: These people are just using you. This whole football system. Theyre using you for the sake of their own good I didnt really understand what he meant back then. But now, after reading this article, I wish I could tell him how right he was. While everyone is eagerly anticipating the 2014 Brazil World Cup, heres an article from The Economist, telling us, from an economical point of view, what actually happens, behind the scene. Sadly, soccer fans are romantic nationalists, not logical economists Cc: Naufal Basri, Sayf Basri, Ariej Basri, Nadzirah Basri, Danial Ahmad Basri
