Growing up in Gulfport in the 1950s was the best life a child - TopicsExpress

Growing up in Gulfport in the 1950s was the best life a child could ask for. But, I thought it was sad when they created the fill. Every time it rained, though, Dad and I would walk the entire fill looking for treasures. And we sure did find them--fossils, sharks teeth, and selenite roses like the one in this photo. We took every one we could find. Dad put an ad in a rock and mineral magazine and we traded these selenite roses with collectors around the country. I still have the collection Dad and I built, but over the years I have added to it on my own. Anyone in Gulfport who now lives on the fill could dig in their yard and find paleolithic treasure.
