Growing up in Pinedale in the 60s, Ronnies Midway Market was where - TopicsExpress

Growing up in Pinedale in the 60s, Ronnies Midway Market was where we did nearly most of our grocery shopping. It was close to home and back then, you didnt have big refrigerators and freezers to store meat. People would shop nearly on a daily basis, in order to have fresh food for their meals. This is where we shopped. Once in a while, we would go with my grandparents, and spend time driving around town to find the deals from the newspaper ads i.e. Country Boy Market, Continental Market, the Rainbow Bakery Store etc. But Ronnies was always our home market. I remember like it was yesterday. My mom would take me with her, and she would go to the meat counter and usually buy herself a pickled pigs foot. And no...I never ate one!!! :-) She would buy hamburger or Farmer John Franks, or some other meat to go with our dinner. If it was the franks, she would always give me one to eat in the car on the ride home. There was a bagger that worked there by the name of Charlie, and everyone knew him. The friendliest guy you could ever meet, and I never saw Charlie without a smile. Before they added curbs and gutters, there was a partial paved and dirt store front, and a dirt lot across the street. The pavement during the summer was very soft, and when the patrons would leave the store with their soda bottle or beer, they would throw the bottle caps on the ground out of the windows of their cars. Back then...everyone carried a bottle opener for their soda. Those bottle caps would embed into that pavement, and there were hundreds of them that would shine in the sunlight. We would always try and count how many different bottle caps we saw, that still were recognizable. Great page, thanks for creating this, and taking everyone down memory lane.
