Growing up, we made pots of coffee. We picked up the phone and actually called our mom, our grandmother, our old friend. On the streets of Chicago, we had respect; not in the sense that we might perceive that word today, but we watched what we said to make sure that we didnt get our butt whooped by some would-be gang members (yes, I grew up around the real gangs). Today, we have k-cups, cell phones, instant messaging, and Facebook. While I am very thankful and love the new technology (especially at work), I recognize that all of these modern improvements have their drawbacks as well as their advantages. I hear some people talk about the zombie apocalypse coming one day. Well, I dont know what planet they live on, because I see it everyday. Im stopped at a stop light, in a restaurant, in line at Wal-Mart, or in Branson on vacation and I see the zombie apocalypse now! 80 percent of the people around me are lost in their cell phones. Am I guilty of this at times? Yes, I most certainly am. Oh yeah, and what about respect? Well, I saw a lot of it before moving to NWA Arkansas in 2011. When my 5 year old daughter or 7 year old son holds the door open for an entire family of people and NO ONE says thank you to my children?! Im all about the technology, and I embrace that kind of change. As for the loss of respect, well, thats NOT something Im ever gonna be at peace with.
